Introducing Figs!

Fig originated in northern Asia Minor (Anatolia), and spread throughout the continent with the Greeks and the Romans. Figs come from the fig tree, which can live as long as 100 years and grow as tall as 50ft! Interestingly, while many may label figs a fruit, they’re technically not; figs are rather inverted flowers, but then the flower matures into the fruit that we consume. Interesting, right? These inverted flowers are also able to flourish in hot, dry climates. Figs can come in a range of colors such as white, green, red, or purplish black (may have seen these more commonly). Figs can be eaten raw and whole or grilled. Yum! (Source/Source/Source)

Also, because of the high concentrations of Vitamin K in figs, if on blood thinners, consume in moderation. When looking at the nutritional facts, 100 grams of raw figs contain 74 calories, 0.75 grams of protein, 16.26 grams of sugar, and 2.9 grams of dietary fiber. Figs are known to promote good digestive health and also good heart health. As stated earlier, it aids in constipation, which can greatly help babies. Not only do figs promote healthy gut bacteria, but it also contains potential anti-cancer properties. Studies show that figs may also promote healthy skin.
